In the game, we follow three protagonists who arrive at the mountain, filled with forests, lakes and cemeteries, and each of them is driven by slightly different motives. The story described in Maiden of Black Water revolves around Mount Hikayama - a mysterious place where people who "follow the way of death" go. The game is the third title in the series (including the Fatal Frame II remake) to be released exclusively on Nintendo consoles.
The title was developed by Koei Tecmo, a holding company formed by the merger of Koei and the original series creators from the Tecmo studio. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is the fifth full-fledged installment of the popular horror series, launched in 2001 on the PlayStation 2 console.
